Most Spanish olive oil sold in supermarkets is a blend assembled by large packers — mixed from multiple origins, harvests and sometimes seasons. By the time it reaches the shelf it may be 18–24 months old, with polyphenols significantly degraded. The label says "extra virgin olive oil" but the flavour and health benefits are a fraction of what fresh, genuine EVOO delivers.
When you buy direct from a producer like Balcón del Sur, you know exactly where the oil came from, when it was harvested, which variety of olive, and how it was processed. The oil we ship was pressed from olives harvested in October–November in Granada and Córdoba — cold-extracted the same day, bottled to order, and shipped directly to you.
